Scott Malone is loving life at Priestfield and is keen for the club to maintain its positive start to the season.
Gillingham’s experienced defender Scott Malone has made over 400 appearances for ten football clubs, but even the thirty-two-year-old hasn’t seen a start like the one we are having at ME7 this season.
After four straight league wins, without conceding a goal, and an impressive victory over Championship side Southampton in the Carabaro Cup, things are looking pretty encouraging.
Malone, however, is refusing to get carried away. The player spoke exclusively to the club website to discuss joining the club and the importance of staying focused.
“The first thing I have to say is everything has been positive,” he said. “I have enjoyed every moment since I have arrived.
“There is a good environment here and there is a real project here. The club is going forward and I want to be part of it.
“The supporters are amazing and the away following is superb. We are going to need our supporters coming here in numbers, we need their support.
“We have won our first five games, which is really good and I don’t think I have started like that, ever.
“I am really enjoying it and I love being here. This is only a start and it needs to continue.
“I have mentioned to the younger players about teams that have started well but haven’t finished well.
“We do not want to get carried away but at the same time you have to take confidence from the last five games and take that into the next five games.
“Colchester this weekend will be dangerous. You can’t look at the table, it is 11 v 11. We need to keep our winning mentality.”
