AFC Bournemouth winger Harry Cornick and striker Joe Quigley join until the end of the season
Head coach Ady Pennock has tonight made a double signing from AFC Bournemouth, with winger Harry Cornick and striker Joe Quigley joining the Gills on loan until the end of the season.
Cornick, 21, signed for the Premier League club in September 2013 and spent the first two months of the 2016/17 campaign on loan at Sky Bet League Two side Leyton Orient.
Twenty-year-old Quigley needs little introduction to Gills fans, having made three appearances for the club at the start of the 2016/17 campaign, before tearing his ACL in our 2-1 victory over Bury on August 13. However, the highly-rated striker's recovery has gone better than initially predicted, and will be fit again for the final weeks of the season.
“My thanks go to AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe and all of his colleagues for allowing us to bring two of their players into the club,” said Pennock.
“Harry’s a natural winger; he’s got great speed and technique, and his ability to play on either side of the pitch gives us options. He’ll be an exciting player to watch.
“Those who saw Joe in action before his unfortunate injury at the start of the season know what a handful he is upfront. He adds something different to the squad, and that can only be a good thing.
“The pair know each other really well, they have a great understanding on the pitch, and I’m confident they’ll both do well for the club.”
Cornick has made one appearance for the Cherries to date, coming on as a substitute in their 5-1 FA Cup victory over Rotherham United in January 2015.
He gained league experience during a year-long loan with Yeovil Town during the 2015/16 season; Cornick made 42 appearances across all competitions, and scored in the Glovers’ EFL Trophy victory over the Gills at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium 14 months ago. He added seven other goals to his tally during his time with the Somerset club.
Having recently signed a contract that keeps him at the South Coast club until 2018, the Poole-born midfielder scored once in his 13 appearances for Orient earlier this season.
Although yet to make his professional debut for the Cherries, Quigley’s progression through the Cherries’ Academy earned him his first professional contract aged 18 in April 2015. He agreed an extension to this deal, running until 2018, last week.
Prior to joining the Gills, the six-foot-four striker had a fruitful loan at Southern Premier side Poole Town, for whom he scored eight goals in 21 appearances. He also gained valuable playing time in the National League with Torquay United (August to September 2015), Wrexham (October 2015) and Woking (November 2015 to March 2016).
The duo's arrival follows the signings of Czech goalkeeper Tomas Holy and striker Josh Parker earlier this month.
