EDINBURGH: "WE HAVE TO START DELIVERING"

29 October 2016

Gills manager Justin Edinburgh spoke to the media following his side's 2-1 defeat at Fleetwood Town on Saturday

Gills manager Justin Edinburgh thought his side dominated possession against Fleetwood on Saturday, and once they got the equaliser, looked the team more likely to take maximum points from the game.

Gillingham lost the match 2-1, despite Jake Hessenthaler’s equaliser, with goals from David Ball and Ashely Hunter ensuring all three point stayed in the North West.

Edinburgh on…the result: “It’s disappointing. Again, I thought it was pretty even first half, but we dominated possession.

“The response the players gave [after half-time] was exactly as we asked. We played with a real purpose, good energy, and a good tempo that we couldn’t perhaps find in the first half.

“Again, a game that we have dominated in the second half we have ended up losing.”

Edinburgh on… Fleetwood’s opening goal: “I don’t believe he {David Ball] was offside. In real-time it may have looked offside to the players, but we have been able to see it again and we have to do better with the initial build-up play.

“We looked a little out of shape, but we had opportunities to deal with that. We have let the player drift into the box, and once he’s I there it’s a little difficult to make contact.”

Edinburgh on… the performance: “Once we got the goal we looked like the team that was going on to win the game, but we can’t keep standing here saying that; we have to start delivering.

“The application and the effort from the players is there. We have got to start turning these performances into results, and not just draws; wins.”
