EDINBURGH: 'WE'VE LOST POINTS TODAY"

17 September 2016

Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh spoke to the press after his side's 2-1 defeat to Port Vale on Saturday

Manager Justin Edinburgh believes his side should have seen the game out for at least a point after losing 2-1 to Port Vale on Saturday, having been 1-0 up at half-time.

Gillingham took a first-half lead through Josh Wright, after great build-up play from Bradley Dack and Cody McDonald, but late goals from Remie Streete and Alex Jones secured all three points for Vale.

Edinburgh on…letting a 1-0 lead slip: “For a good period of the game I thought we were very good and worthy of the lead. It is something that we have to address.

“We have found that we can come from behind to win games, but we certainly aren’t seeing games out. It’s hugely frustrating and a real disappointment today.”

Edinburgh on…Jonathan Bond’s performance: “He’s done really well. He has brought very good competition and made some really good saves for us.”

Edinburgh on…the squad and injuries: “It’s Dacky’s first game and he’s run out of steam. Scott Wagstaff played his first 90 minutes today. We would have liked to make changes but we didn’t have the right personnel to be able to do that.

“I can’t fault the players for their running and commitment, it was just maybe a little too much for us to see the game out in the end.”
