MARSH ACADEMY COACH AT LOCAL SCHOOL

7 February 2017

The academy led sports sessions for over 100 primary school students

The Gillingham FC Marsh Football Academy squad were out in Kent last month, coaching young children from Greatstone Primary School in New Romney.

Members of the Post-16 Academy team led sports sessions for the whole school, with over 100 Year five and Year six students and then a further 80 students from years three and four.

The squad ran six different sessions for the children, focussed around developing team work skills and having fun.

All of the children thoroughly enjoyed the sessions, and the day gave a really good opportunity for the Year 5 and 6 children in particular to find out more about Marsh Academy as they move towards considering secondary school options.

Barry Cooper, South Kent Development Officer for the Gillingham FC Community Trust, said of the event; “It’s been great to see the development of the Marsh Academy squad, and how far they’ve come in such a short time.  They all connected with the young pupils from Greatstone, and did the Marsh Football Academy proud!”

Marsh Academy also added that they were “extremely proud of what these young gentlemen are achieving at the moment!”

Greatstone’s Headteacher confirmed that it will be the start of a relationship between Marsh Academy, Gillingham Football Club and Greatstone Primary School.

The coaching sessions also coincide with our February Soccer Schools on Monday 13 – Tuesday 14 February, held at the Marsh Academy.  The Soccer Schools are open to children aged 5-14, and we hope to see lots of the talented young players from Greatstone there on the day!
