NEW GILLS STADIUM: A CALL TO ARMS

29 March 2017

Fans are asked to show their support for our long-term aspirations

Gillingham FC are today calling on supporters, partners, Medway residents and football fans across the country to back our aspirations of building a new, state-of-the-art stadium in order to secure the club's long-term future.

Chairman Paul Scally has worked tirelessly over the past 17 years in his quest to find a new home for the club, one that would transform the future of the Gills while acting as a world-class community hub for Medway residents. The only suitable site is upon land known locally as Mill Hill.

This land is identified in the draft proposals of Medway Council's Local Plan, the final version of which sets out the strategic planning, building and development policies across the area from now until 2035.

As a result, we are asking Gillingham supporters, local businesses and residents, and football fans the length and breadth of England to write to Medway Council in support of our aspirations of moving to Mill Hill.

“Not only would this ensure that Gillingham Football Club have a long-term future at the heart of the community in Medway,” explained the chairman, “such a move would help raise the profile of Medway, gain national and international recognition of the area, and assist in placing this part of South East England firmly on the map for the good and great of everyone.”

Supporters can show their support by filling in sample letters that are available to either download here now or collect in person from the MEMS Priestfield Stadium as of Saturday morning. These can either be emailed to futuremedway@medway.gov.uk or sent to Medway Council Planning Department, Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham, Kent. ME4 4TR.

The closing date for the Local Plan consultation period is Tuesday, April 18. Those sending letters in support of the club's aspirations for the Mill Hill site need to supply their name and address in order for their backing to be considered.
