PENNOCK: “I WANT THIS PLACE ABSOLUTELY ROCKING”

24 March 2017

Gills head coach Ady Pennock speaks to the press before Saturday's match against Peterborough

Gills head coach Ady Pennock says his side has learned from the back-to-back defeats against Bolton and Rochdale, and wants the home supporters to turn up in full voice for Saturday’s clash with Peterborough at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium.

Pennock on…bouncing back from two defeats: “I have had individual chats with every single one of the players, and collectively too. We have had a few training sessions and we’ve been doing shape work, but we can’t wait for Saturday, and hopefully we will get back to winning ways.

“I was disappointed last week against Rochdale. I thought we didn’t play as a team, we went as individuals which was very disappointing, but Bolton are doing that to every team and are in rich form at the moment, so you have to hold your hands up.

“We have learned from last weekend, and the players are chomping at the bit to get out there on Saturday.”

Pennock on…the role of the Gills supporters: “I want this place absolutely rocking, we need the fans now. It is an important part of the season.

“In the predicament we are in we need the fans to turn up and make it a carnival atmosphere. We have to put in a performance to get them going, we know that, but we need the fans.

“They have been fantastic since we came here. If you look at the Scunthorpe game the atmosphere was fantastic. We need them to stick with us. The players, more than anyone else, need the supporters, and they have been first-class so far.”

Pennock on…team selection: “Josh Wright is back, which is a big bonus as he has been top-drawer. We have Harry Cornick back with us and Rory Donnelly could be involved, too, so they are a massive bonus for us.

"The only area where we have injuries is in defence, which is annoying as they are a very important part of the team."
