Gills head coach Ady Pennock speaks to the press ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League One fixture
Head coach Ady Pennock says he’s looking forward to his first home game as head coach of the Gills, when his team take on Shrewsbury Town at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Saturday.
In his press conference on Thursday morning, Pennock also gave an update on injuries and spoke about the opposition, Paul Hurst’s Salop.
Pennock on…his first home game in charge: “It will be emotional. The last time I said goodbye was when I had to retire, which was sad, but this will be a very happy occasion.
“That walk to the dugout will be fantastic for me but I will be looking forward to the game and getting three points more than anything else.”
Pennock on…Tuesday’s postponed AFC Wimbledon match: “I was disappointed, but we can’t do anything about the weather. I went onto the pitch on Tuesday and it was rock hard. It’s just one of those things that you can’t do anything about, and of course it is disappointing, but now I am looking forward to Saturday.”
Pennock on…Shrewsbury Town: “Like every other team in this division they work very hard for each other. We will have a game plan like we did at Oldham and Sheffield United, and we will go from there.
“It will be a big game for us, a massive game. If we get that win it will put us in good stead for the rest of the season.”
Pennock on…injuries: “We had some bumps and bruises [after Sheffield United on Saturday], however Chris Herd is our only new injury doubt, after a head injury forced him off at half-time.”
Pennock on…Stuart Nelson's form: “Nels was fantastic last week and long may that continue. He has the shirt at the moment, and if he keeps performing like that it’s his. The ball is in his court.”
