The Gills head coach spoke to the media prior to Saturday's game against Bury
Gills head coach Ady Pennock says he wants his side to react positively to Tuesday’s defeat at Swindon when they come up against an in-form Bury side at Gigg Lane on Saturday.
In his pre-match press conference on Friday morning, Pennock also gave an injury update and spoke about defender Paul Konchesky following his departure last night.
Pennock on…facing Bury on Saturday: “I’m looking for a reaction [from the players] and three points. I can’t wait. The boys were disappointed with the result on Tuesday, but it is a different scenario on Saturday. Swindon are a team that hurt you when they have their tails up; Bury are big, strong, experienced and organised.
“Also, the pitch will be different with a lot of rain forecast today and tomorrow. It will be very heavy. We have got to turn up and match them [physically]. If we don’t, then we won’t get a result, it’s as simple as that.”
Pennock on…the season's remaining games: “We have looked at the goals we conceded [against Swindon], the players know what went wrong and they have to learn very quickly. We have 11 games to go and they are all cup finals.
“There are a group of us around the relegation area and others are in danger of becoming involved. The Swindon game has gone now so we have to look forward Bury and put a performance, but more importantly get a result.”
Pennock on…injuries: “Deji [Oshilaja], [Bradley] Dack and [Mark] Byrne are all 50/50. We are going to see what they are like in training today and they will have fitness tests later.
“Other than those it is likely to be the same squad as Tuesday. We don’t have any information until we see the players later today or even tomorrow morning.
“Deji went back to Cardiff to have a scan on his knee. The scan came back okay, but he is still feeling his groin from two weeks ago [against AFC Wimbledon].”
Pennock on…Paul Konchesky's departure: “He has been a very good professional. I have asked if he can do a bit of scouting work for us, looking at young players.
“I would like to thank him for what he has done at the club since the start of the season.”
