The Gills' prize for defeating Southend in the first round of the EFL Cup is a draw against Premier League side Watford in the second round, on Tuesday, August 23.
TEAM NEWS
After one goal and two assists in the previous two games, Ryan Jackson missed the trip to Scunthorpe at the weekend, and Justin Edinburgh said Tuesday may be too soon for the defender to return to the team.
"He's got a tight groin,” said the manager. "We couldn’t take the risk [on Saturday] because we are low on numbers as it is. He had to pull him out to be on the safe side, rather than take a risk."
Edinburgh confirmed that the fitness of the right-back will be assessed before the trip to Watford on Tuesday.
Speaking after his side's defeat to Scunthorpe on Saturday, Edinburgh said that Tuesday a great opportunity for his team to bounce back from the 5-0 defeat.
He added: "If you get the opportunity, then you have got to take it. That’s what i said to the players after the game. It comes around quickly and it’s a good game to go and play in, but only if we cut out these individual errors."
When asked whether he will ring the changes for the EFL Cup tie, Edinburgh replied: "I'll always pick the team that i believe can go and do the job."
THE OPPOSITION
Watford have picked up one point from their first two Premier League games of the 2016/17 season, drawing against Southampton and losing against Chelsea.
The Hornets made two new signings last week, but it is unclear whether they will start against the Gills on Tuesday night.
Younes Kaboul signed from top-flight rivals Sunderland, whereas Argentinian Roberto Pereyra has joined from Serie A winners Juventus on a five-year deal.
Isaac Success could feature following a hamstring injury, but midfielder Ben Watson is suspended for the clash.
LAST TIME WE MET
The Gills last faced the Hornets at Vicarage Road back in 2007, in another League Cup clash. The match ended up finishing 3-0 to Watford, in an exciting encounter in Hertfordshire.
Watford's Richard Lee saved a Gary Mulligan penalty with the score at 0-0, before Tamas Priskin went on to score the opener for the home side. Douglas Rinaldi added a second from a 20-yard free-kick, before Alex Campana headed a third shortly after Efe Sodje was sent off for the Gills.
The teams have met 87 times in total, with the Gills winning 23, drawing 26 and losing 38.
