Gills boss pleased with side’s performance after 2-2 draw away at Shrewsbury Town.
Justin Edinburgh believed his side did enough to secure three points with a solid performance away from home.
He said: “I am delighted with the performance, no doubt about that because that’s as good as we’ve played for a while, but I think we’re going to be disappointed with not collecting all three points. We were running into a goalkeeper, who was on his best form today, and we hit the wood work but we’re absolutely delighted with the performance.”
“I thought with their goal coming against a run of play, we showed the resilience to bounce straight back. We asked questions and got a great goal from Cody. Today was as good as Cody’s played this season and hopefully that will be the kick start for him.
“It was a fantastic strike from Ryan to put us ahead, and I just wish that would have been the winning goal.”
The Gills boss continued to praise his team’s ability to come from a goal behind and pull off a dominant performance.
“Stuart Nelson has probably touched the ball twice with his hands today and he’s picked out the net twice, and it’s a reflection of how much we dominated the game. Overall, I think it was a big improvement from last week in terms of going behind and getting ourselves back in the game, but I thought we passed the ball with a real purpose and looked really strong today.”
“We didn’t feel sorry for ourselves, we posted questions and I think the goal was coming because we just kept the ball alive and kept our link up playing around the box. Today, certainly for about 20 minutes there just before half time, it’s as good as we’ve been so there’s a lot of positives to take and it’s a point gained on the road.”
Edinburgh’s side aren’t back in action again until the 12th December when they welcome Burton Albion to Priestfield. It’s a period the manager hopes to use positively.
“It’s a good time to reflect on what we’ve done so far, it’s an opportunity to work with players who perhaps haven’t played as many games and a good chance to let the others who have played a lot to get some well-earned rest."
“As it comes up to Christmas period, it is relentless and we want to make sure that when we restart the league we take this performance into the next.”
