20 May 2016

Weekly update of what has been happening at the club this week....

GILLS LADIES MAKE IT A POSITIVE END TO THE SEASON
This week saw Gillingham Ladies play their last two games of the season.

Firstly, Gills Ladies were on the road to face Norwich City LFC on Sunday, May 15. Manager Jack Wheeler made two changes to the starting line up with the return of captain Lauren Williams and Megan Maslak. Four goals in the latter stages of each half for Gills Ladies secured a convincing win through a double hat trick for Kallie Balfour and two goals from Emma Tune. This win secured a second place finish in the league.

Gills Ladies last game of the season was at home to Old Actonians LFC on Thursday, May 19. Manager Jack Wheeler made three changes to the starting line up with Madison North, Lydia Wills and Imogen Alabaster returning to the starting line up. Gills Ladies opened the scoring in the first half through Fiona Constable but Old Actonians drew level before half time. Gills started the second half in style with a brace by Kallie Balfour followed by a goal each for Jade Keogh and Georgia Reece to secure a convincing win and end the season five games unbeaten scoring 20 goals.

Kallie Balfour's two goals against Old Actonians LFC took her tally for the season to 32 league goals (39 in all competitions) going ahead of Crystal Palace's Gemma Bryant to finish league top goalscorer. Well done Kallie thoroughly deserved.
