DAVID KERSLAKE NAMED GILLS ASSISTANT MANAGER

6 July 2015

David Kerslake replaces Andy Hessenthaler as Assistant Manager at Gillingham Football Club

Gillingham FC can confirm the appointment of David Kerslake as the club’s new Assistant Manager.

David replaces Andy Hessenthaler who left the Gills last week to join Leyton Orient.

Kerslake, 49, enjoyed a 15-year playing career which began with Queens Park Rangers, however it was at Swindon Town where he played the majority of his games between 1989 and 1993.

A short spell at Leeds was followed up with a stint at Spurs where the right back played alongside Justin Edinburgh at White Hart Lane.

Two more spells at Swindon, sandwiched by stints at Wycombe and Ipswich followed before David moved into coaching.

His first job was with Colin Calderwood at Nottingham Forest before becoming First Team Coach at Watford, working under Malky Mackay.

However following his move to Cardiff Kerslake also made the switch, and found himself in Caretaker Charge for a short period following Mackay’s sacking in December 2013.

He then had a brief stint at Wigan before assisting the Academy setup at Tottenham.

On arriving at Priestfield David said: “I’ve known Justin for a quite a while and watched him progress as a Manager and when he gave me the opportunity to be Assistant Manager I jumped at the chance.

“Everyone at the club has been extremely welcoming, the boys are looking in good shape and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead now.”

Justin Edinburgh added: “I’m really pleased David has agreed to join us, we were team-mates at Tottenham and he’s a very experienced Coach who has worked at some very big Football Clubs.

“Following Andy’s departure last week I wanted to get the right candidate for this role as soon as possible and I thank the Chairman for getting everything sorted so quickly.”

A full interview with David will appear on the website tomorrow.
