VOTE FOR YOUR GOAL OF THE SEASON

17 April 2014

Supporters now have their chance to select their `Goal of the Season` from the 2013-14 campaign

It’s that time of year again when we ask you, the supporters, to vote for what you perceive our `Goal of the Season` to be.

There are a selection of terrific goals to choose from, and we have narrowed down the list to a total of 10 superb efforts.

All you need to do to register your vote is comment on the relevant video at gfcofficial, tweet your selection to @TheGillsFC, leave a post on our official Facebook page, or email your choice to media@priestfield.com.

Below are our chosen goals – take a look at the video below and pick your favourite.

GOAL A – Cody McDonald v Swindon (County Ground – 24.08.13)



The striker latched on to a long clearance from Leon Legge, cut inside his marker and placed his shot across goalkeeper Wes Foderingham in to the bottom to corner to earn Gills their first point away from home.

GOAL B – Chris Whelpdale v Notts County (MEMS Priestfield Stadium – 22/10/13)



The winger got his first goal of the season when he did brilliantly to chest down a cross from Myles Weston, that touch created a couple of yards of space inside the penalty area and he clinically placed his shot beyond the reach of Bartosz Bialkowski.

GOAL C – Joe Martin v Peterborough (MEMS Priestfield Stadium – 14.12.2013)



The full back his second free kick of the season when he got his set piece up and over the wall, with keeper Robert Olejnik unable to prevent it nestling in the top corner.

Martin had previously scored a similar free kick away at Crewe Alexandra.

GOAL D – Bayo Akinfenwa v Tranmere Rovers (Prenton Park - 20.12.2013)



Akinfenwa bagged his first goals for the club since August with a brilliant brace at Prenton Park.

The first of which was a brilliant volley inside the area – Bradley Dack went in for a 50/50 challenge, the ball deflected off the midfielder and in to the path of Bayo who smashed it beyond the reach of Owain Fon Williams.

GOAL E - Cody McDonald v Walsall (MEMS Priestfield Stadium – 29.12.2013)



Seconds after the half time break Cody produced a sensational individual effort when he controlled a cross from the right hand side.

His initial touch was heavy, but this allowed him to maneuverer his body and beat keeper Richard O’Donnell with an audacious overhead kick.

GOAL F – Bayo Akinfenwa v Port Vale (MEMS Priestfield Stadium – 01.02.2014)



Bayo had already scored once in the game before beating Chris Neal for a second time.

Bradley Dack delivered a magnificent cross from the right hand touchline, and Akinfenwa didn’t need a second invitation to get on the end of it and guide the ball home.

GOAL G – Cody McDonald v Port Vale (MEMS Priestfield Stadium - 01.02.2014)



Gills went three up against the Vale when McDonald finished a fantastic team move.

Steven Gregory picked out McDonald who played a 1-2 with Bradley Dack inside the area, and he beat Neal superbly to give the hosts a comfortable cushion.

GOAL H – Charlie Lee v Bristol City (Ashton Gate – 01.03.2014)



Having come on as a half time sub, Lee didn’t take long to make an impact when a deep corner to the back post was well kept in by Akinfenwa, and Charlie swung his left foot and connected with the ball brilliantly to guide the ball in to the roof of the net.

GOAL I – Jake Hessenthaler v Coventry City (MEMS Priestfield Stadium – 11.03.2014)



Jake got his first goal for the club in stunning fashion – Cody McDonald went in for a 50/50 with oncoming goalkeeper Joe Murphy, the ball broke free and Hessenthaler did brilliantly to win possession for launching a shot on goal.

Murphy was unable to track back; the ball dipped at the last moment and came off the underside of the bar before dropping in to an empty net.

GOAL J – Bradley Dack v Rotherham United (MEMS Priestfield Stadium – 05.04.14)



Gills took the lead late on courtesy of a great finish from Dack who robbed his marker of the ball, spotted the keeper off his line and produced a delicately weighted chip which nestled in to the net.

The winner will be announced at our `Player of the Year` event which takes place on the evening on Saturday May 3 following our final home game of the season against Shrewsbury Town.
