Gills boss wants players to learn from mistakes as Coventry win top of the table clash 4-1 at the Ricoh
Justin Edinburgh said there is plenty for his side to learn following Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to Coventry at the Ricoh Arena.The Sky Blues replaced Gills at the top of the table with Jacob Murphy netting a first half hat-trick in a period where the hosts scored four times in 12 minutes to lead 4-0 at the break.
Bradley Dack reduced the deficit after the interval where Gills looked much brighter, but as Edinburgh revealed after the game the damage had been done.
He said: “Something we need to learn quickly is to make sure we stay in the game once we concede because conceding four goals in 12 minutes isn’t good enough.
“The only thing we could do was restore some pride and ensure we didn’t lose the second half but it was probably too little too late.
“There are a lot of things to learn from. This is a new group and they have been fantastic, we came up against a good side and up until their first goal we restricted them to shots outside of their box.
“We had one cleared off the line and from there the mistake cost us the goal and it deflated us a bit and we didn’t recover our composure from there.
“I’m pleased with the second half as it would have been easy to go under but we got the goal and that’s credit to take.
“We have to recover quickly, we have a game Tuesday and you don’t get chance to have a breather.”
