Gills boss reflects on victory over Bradford
Justin Edinburgh said his team got their just desserts following Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over Bradford at Valley Parade.The Gills came from behind to secure maximum points – Luke Norris smashing home an equaliser before James Hanson inadvertently put the ball in his own net having put Bradford a goal up after just eight minutes.
A late save from Stuart Nelson ensured the points came back to Kent.
After the game Justin said: “I thought it was very much deserved and it was probably our best performance to date.
“To fall behind was disappointing but the character we showed again to claw ourselves back into the game and go on and win it was testament to this group of players.
“I think we got our just desserts today. There is a great togetherness in that group and I don’t think you will find a younger starting XI in any league.
“It’s a good start and a good foundation and we want to keep the momentum going.”
Edinburgh said the only negative of the evening was the goal his side conceded, but at half time the players believed three points were still possible.
He added: “Two lapses of concentration in quick succession, if you don’t nullify the first when we had an opportunity from the throw do so then inevitably you will get punished and we did but I though we moved the ball well and looked fluent in our passing and stretched Bradford all night.
“You always believe, we spoke about it at half time but apart from those two lapses we had been good in the game.
“If we could just be a bit brighter around the box and a have a bit more quality then we could open them up and I think the goal we got was a good one.”
Norris was singled out by the Manager following another fine display in attack and the Gills boss hopes his good form continues.
He said: “Nothing short of what he deserved, he has been outstanding for me this season. He works tirelessly and holds the ball up, he is playing well and young Rory Donnelly making his debut today was outstanding alongside him.
“He’s got all of the tools and he’s got a Manager that believes in him and he just needs to keep delivering and he’s certainly doing that.
“He rolled his ankle in the warm up which wasn’t good but credit to him that he played near enough the whole game.”
