PATTO REFLECTS ON CHATHAM DRAW

28 July 2015

Gills Development Coach pleased with his players following draw with Chatham Town

Mark Patterson described Monday’s 1-1 draw with Chatham as `a thoroughly enjoyable game` at Maidstone Road.

His young side, including centre back Callum Davies, fell behind in the first half but fought their way back into the game and grabbed a deserved equalizer through substitute Bradley Stevenson.

Tom Hadler made a number of fine saves between the sticks to prevent Gills from going behind, with Greg Cundle and Jack Sellens going closest to grabbing a winner.

Mark said after the game: “It had a bit of everything, a terrific goal from Bradley – it had a few hefty challenges too.

“I liked the way Chatham play, they move the ball well and they have a good physical element which was the challenge for us.

"A couple of the younger ones found it difficult to start with but gradually we got into it.

“On the balance of play they probably deserved their goal but at half time we changed and went to a different shape and we saw the benefits.

"In the second half I thought we more than matched them, granted Tom made an excellent save at the end but we had two or three clear chances.

“It was a really competitive match, we had a few younger ones out there and it was a big learning curve for them.

“Overall it was a pleasing night’s work.”
