Peter Taylor reveals Danny Kedwell does not have a serious injury but will not travel to Preston for Saturday's league clash
Peter Taylor has revealed that Danny Kedwell will not travel to Preston for this weekend’s game, but only as a precaution.The striker, having come on as a sub in the 2-0 win over Tranmere, wasn’t in the squad to take on Walsall on Easter Monday, however the Manager was eager to point out that he is giving the striker every chance to be 100% fit for the final match of the season.
Speaking to the club’s official website he said: “It’s definitely not serious; It’s just a bit of swelling where he’s probably come back too soon and he’s done that because I’ve asked him to.
“He wants to play and we have to hold him back but I wanted him back for that 20 minutes against Tranmere, that was the whole idea of it.
“We were hoping there would be no swelling but there was, on the strength of that there is no point in taking a risk and in that respect I’m not going to take him to Preston either, we are going to get him right for Shrewsbury here.
“It’s not serious. He had a sugar injection two or three weeks ago that gave him the opportunity to get himself right. Otherwise he wouldn’t have played again this season – he’s fine but it’s just a risk to put him in.
“Going back to our Orient game I could have played Leon Legge because we were so desperate for a centre half but he could have come back too early, done a hamstring and been out for the rest of the season.
“We knew we needed four points in the next two games, and we got them because Leggy has probably been the best player we’ve had.
“That’s what I want supporters to realise, I do take care in who I select – I certainly won’t put anyone’s injuries at risk because then they are out for too long.”
With Danny out it has given Peter the chance to include some of the younger players, and he said Aaron Millbank will be a part of the traveling party.
He added: “Yes he is definitely going; he is a young player I’m getting to know. He’s now started training with us regularly; he is a real handful and does most things really well.
“He is very hard-working and I think he has a good chance and I think he will be a player who will play in Gillingham’s first team very, very soon.”
