TAYLOR: ORIENT ARE DANGEROUS SIDE

12 April 2014

Peter Taylor well aware of the challenges his side face against Leyton Orient as Gills prepare for league clash

Gills boss Peter Taylor is still wary of the threat Leyton Orient will pose this weekend despite a recent run of form which is likely to see them miss out on an automatic promotion spot.

Russell Slade’s men haven’t won in their last five outings but have secured play-off spot at the very least.

Peter has watched Orient play recently and says they are still more than capable of making things difficult for their opponents.

Speaking exclusively to the club’s official website he said: “They are very dangerous, they showed us here at Christmas how good they were and they still are, no doubt about it.

“They have had a little bit of a dodgy run, maybe their players got a little bit tired but I would also say, now that they can’t be caught and they are certainly in the play-offs, I’m sure they’ve relaxed a little bit.

“We are hoping they are still feeling tired and more relaxed because of their position.”

The Gills have been boosted by the return of winger Chris Whelpdale who will be in the squad that travel to the Matchroom Stadium; however Danny Kedwell is likely to make his return for the visit of Tranmere next Friday.

Taylor added: “He’s in the squad; he’s trained for the last few days with the first team and looked alright.

"Nobody ever questions his match fitness because he is a very fit lad; we just want to make sure his ankle is strong enough.

“Danny Kedwell won’t be in the 21; we are going to give him another week. He’s looking very good but he’s only done a little bit of training so I personally think it’s a bit risky to over push it just because of the urgency.

“We want Danny with us because he’s a winner, but I don’t want to over push it and mess up his leg again.

"If it means he can be fit and available for Tranmere next Friday then that’s great.”
