TAYLOR REACTS TO PRESTON DEFEAT

22 October 2014

Manager Peter Taylor addresses the media following narrow defeat to Preston at Priestfield

Peter Taylor praised his players for their attacking intent following the 1-0 defeat to Preston North End at Priestfield on Tuesday evening.

Paul Gallagher’s 59th minute goal proved to be the winner, and although Gillingham did hit the bar through Brennan Dickenson and have a fine effort from Cody McDonald well saved by Jamie Jones, the hosts were unable to find a way through.

The Gills boss said after the game: “I thought for an hour we were very good – a very good first half and unlucky to not score a couple of goals and I think Preston are certainly one of the favourites for automatic promotion.

“The last half an hour wasn’t so good, maybe we lost a little bit of belief. The goal wasn’t fantastic, we were under a bit of pressure but I thought maybe we should have dealt with it a bit more, but for an hour I thought we were good.

“We played well against Notts County and against Coventry and come away with nothing, that’s what happens in the game which is why you have to get goals when you probably deserve one.

“It was an attacking team and I thought the players had a go, the wide players had a go at their full backs and I thought Danny Kedwell did ever so well with his first game for a while.

“The only thing I can ever ask of the players is to make sure they work extremely hard for each other and have a go at the things that we talk about, and they did that.”
