Gillingham Manager Peter Taylor says he welcomes selection headaches and is eager to have competition for places at MEMS Priestfield Stadium
Peter Taylor says he is pleased to have a number of selection headaches ahead of Saturday's game against Walsall.Only Stuart Nelson (thumb) and Danny Kedwell (knee) are due to miss out, and with several players in fine form Peter knows he will have a few decisions to make ahead of kick-off.
He said: "Any club will tell you if there is competition for places then its good news. If you have a hungry bunch of players that all want to play then it’s healthy.
“Amine Linganzi and Josh Pritchard came on [against Peterborough] and both looked exceptionally good so it’s a nice healthy selection problem for me and I’m happy with it.
“Doug Loft was a nice relief for us really because we know what a good player we have signed and then when you only have him for the first three matches it’s frustrating because you know what he can bring to the team.
“We have Gavin Hoyte back from suspension too so that’s another nice problem that we’ve got.
“As much as we have been very unlucky with injures, all of a sudden now you are looking in the building and you only really have Stuart Nelson, who is getting better, and Danny Kedwell.
“I think the Physio deserves a lot of credit because he has worked extremely hard to get these players fit.”
Danny Kedwell will be out for three weeks following his surgery, and Peter said it was the right time to make that decision.
He added: “I don’t think it was a tough one in the respect of we will have him fit and well again in a month’s time and back to how we know he can play – the decision was either that route or you get on with it and he will then be 75-80% fit so to me it was the right thing to do.
“We can only get it done at this particular time because it was the time the consultant could go in.
“I still think we have enough cover at the minute, I want to give the players a chance to show me that without Danny they can come in and do the job.”
