TONY BURNS STARTS WORK AS SENIOR GOALKEEPING COACH

Tony Burns begins work as Senior Goalkeeping Coach at Gillingham FC


Gillingham FC can confirm that Tony Burns has agreed to become Senior Goalkeeping Coach.


News of his arrival was announced earlier in the week; however it wasn’t until today that Tony officially started work on a part time, non-contract basis.


The 70-year-old has a wealth of experience to his name having had spells at Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Brighton during his domestic career before enjoying stints abroad with Durban United in South Africa and Memphis Rogues in America.


After retiring Burns, who is originally from Kent, had three spells in charge of Tonbridge Angels and had seven years as Manager of Gravesend and Northfleet (now Ebbsfleet United) between 1982 and 1989.


In addition to that he enjoyed 14 years as Goalkeeping Coach at Millwall prior to a spell at former club Palace, before teaming up with Peter Taylor during his time at Stevenage.
