WALKING FOOTBALL IN KENT

24 May 2016

This June we are teaming up with the Kent FA to host a Walking Football Festival in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of England winning the World Cup.

The Festival will take place at The Abbey School in Faversham on Wednesday 1st June, 6:00pm to 8:00pm and costs just £20 a team to enter. There are two categories, 40yrs+ and 55yrs+ and is 6-a-side and you can have a maximum of eight players in a squad.

The evening will also consist of raffles and fundraising with all proceeds being split between Demelza House, Bobby Moore Foundation and Take Heart.

Herbie Tyler for the Kent FA said: “Walking Football is a slower-paced, fully inclusive, sociable game targeted at those who can no longer access the traditional formats of the game.

“We’ve been supporting and developing walking football for two years now, and the foundations we’ve built in this time have seen the number of sessions in Kent grow from zero to over 25. We’ve now hit an exciting time in walking football; with the formation of the Kent FA Walking Football Steering Group who will be leading the way in the county and having representation from Kent’s biggest club, Gillingham FC, demonstrating the way in which this new sport has captured the imagination of retired players and sports organisations alike.

“We’re hopeful that the formation of this steering group will provide a voice to those who matter the most (the players), and that we can continue to take positive strides in providing recreational football for all throughout the county.”

Community Trust Project Co-ordinator, Barry Cooper added “We are really pleased to be teaming up with the Kent FA to help raise awareness for Walking Football in the County and hope that we can help increase participation and access to sessions, whether competitive or just for fun.”

To book your teams place please contact Herbie Tyler, Herbie.Tyler@Kent FA.com (payment is made on the day) and for more information please contact Herbie or Barry Cooper, bcooper@priestfield.com or 01634 350125.
