GILLS LADIES 8-1 ASHFORD TOWN
The Gillingham Ladies entered there final pre-season match with there first home game at Woodstock Park. Once again the management team shuffled the pack in the hope that they would have a selection headache for next week, and that is exactly what happened.
Their opponents Ashford Town were late replacements for Gravesham Town who pulled out on Friday. Ashford requested that the game be played in 3x30 minute periods. Gillingham along with the officials agreed with this request.
This week the Gillingham team was without the Jac Fiddyment due to injury, Victoria Ashton Jones & Lesley Kay were also unavailable.
As the game kicked off, Gillingham's experience showed as they kept the ball well and made good work of the right hand side, where Gemma Ridge gave them great problems. Kelly Seath was pulling the strings in the middle with her great range of passing seemingly unlocking the defence.
Gillingham took the lead through striker Anna Broad, her determination made her a constant pest to the Ashford back four. As the 1/3 filtered out Gills Ladies missed several great chances. In form Terri Reynolds, starting at left back, drove a fierce right footed shot from outside the box making it 2-0.
The 2nd period saw Ashford become the brighter side, and they created several good opportunities, as Gillingham became a bit disjointed and maybe a bit complacent. However, this all changed with a moment of magic from Kylie Overton who notched her first goal with a well taken effort. She followed it up, shortly after, with her 2nd of the game to put the Gillingham Ladies in complete control at 4-0.
The final period saw Gillingham become rampant, as they appeared to create wave after wave of attacks. Kim Bolden had a goal disallowed for offside, which was very marginal and could of gone either way, Gills also hit the post and bar several times. Terri Reynolds notched her 2nd of the game, which Anna Broad followed with her 2nd as well.
This was sandwiched by a consolation goal from Ashford as they capitalized on Gillingham failing to clear a corner. Man of the match Terri Reynolds hit her deserved hat trick, whilst Kirsty Goodall also got on the score sheet making sure that all the strikers scored.
Final Score 8-1
All though a comfortable win, Gillingham Ladies know they can not be complacent as they start there league campaign next week at home to Bedford Town Belles. The standard of opposition will be a lot higher but Mana ger Martin Andrews was delighted with the moral boosting win not to mention the fact that all of his strikers got on the score sheet.
