JUDD: I LOVE THE PHYSICAL SIDE

Posted on: Fri 19 Feb 2010

As a right back Whitney Judd is one of those players who goes about her job professionally but with little recognition.

In the last few weeks she and the rest of the back four have played an important part in games against the Gills play off rivals.

Unfortunately the hard working right back deflected the ball into the back of her own net against MK Dons; however she isn't letting it get to her.

She said: "it was unlucky to go in off me but that is football isn't it.You just have to get up and get on with it. It isn't worth letting your head drop otherwise you're going to make a lot of mistakes during the game!"

The Gills have come through their toughest two weeks in the South East Combination League so far this season, crucially coming away with all six points.

Talking about the games, she added: "Well I wouldn't exactly say we came through with flying colours.

"In the second half of both games we have had to defend a lot and hit them on the break, but we did it well and came away with the three points in both games."

The Gills have conceded five goals in the last two games, and it has been down to errors more than good attacking play from their opponents, something that has frustrated the tough tackling defender.

She said "Yeah it is frustrating as they have been sloppy goals, but our back four have still got a good ratio of keeping the goals out which is wicked!

One thing that makes a change for the Gills is the winning feeling as in previous seasons they have struggled to win a game.

She added: Oh I love it! It's so good getting results every game instead of losing every game Everyone's confidence is so high at the moment as well which makes it a happier place to be."

The defence has been rock solid all season and the no nonsense defender believes that playing together game after game helps.

"I do because we always know if we make a mistake one of the other back four is going to be there to clear it up for us! Our communication is also very good which helps a lot.

The defender believes that the Ladies squad has more than enough quality to win the League and the cup competitions that they are currently fighting for.

"We have loads of quality in our team and the reserves! We could win all of our cups and the reserves could easily win all of their cups as well! It is going to be a wicked season for everyone at Gills!

She also has an attacking side to her game but admits that she prefers the physical side of defending more than attacking.

She said: "I like to attack but I don't think I am fit enough to do it all of the time and I have to be careful when I do it as we could quickly get caught out on the break.

"I love the physical side to the game. I think it's the best part to the game, apart from winning of course."

The Gills face Ashford in the League Cup Quarter Finals on Sunday and it takes on extra significance due to the amount of ex Gills players now at Ashford

"I am looking forward to it because some of the ex Gills girls play in that team and it will just be good playing against all of that lot. I'm also looking forward to the game because it's a brilliant chance to get to the semi finals of the cup."
