DARTFORD 0-8 GILLS LADIES
By Chris Dicketts
Gills Ladies made it to their second cup final in a week as they breezed past opponents Dartford on Sunday afternoon.
The Gills made a great start when Vicky Ashton-Jones put them ahead after just five minutes; it took until the half hour mark for the Gills to score again. Ashlee Hincks stepped up and slammed home a 30 yard free kick, before netting the Gills third just two minutes later.Danni Farmer netted a penalty just before half time to make it 4-0.
The second half saw the Gills score with just seconds on the clock when Farmer netted her second goal of the game, with a simple tap in. She then netted her hat trick on the hour mark with a well taken chip from the edge of the area. Vicky Ashton-Jones and Charlotte Abbott both scored within a minute of each other to round off the scoring.
Manager Ian Varley made one change to the side that beat Enfield last time out, with Jodie Mugford coming in to replace Laura East. Natalie Crinean was fit enough for a place on the bench after recovering from injury as well.
The Gills were dominant from the off and they created the first change of the game when Ash Hincks swung in a free kick that was nicked off the head of Becky Lyon by a Dartford defender.
In the fifth minute a well work move down the left wing was finished off well by the impressive Vicky Ashton-Jones.Hincks broke down the left and found Jodie Mugford on the edge of the Dartford area, her cross picked out Ashton-Jones who took out two defenders before slotting under the goalkeeper.
In the twelfth minute Danni Farmer picked out Deanna Cooper who took the ball on before unleashing a shot from distance, well over the keeper's cross bar.
Deanna Cooper was causing all sorts of problems for the Dartford midfield and she was taken out by the Dartford midfield 30 yards out. Ash Hincks stepped up and hit her effort just wide of the keepers near post.
Vicky Ashton-Jones came close to adding to her tally in the 16th minute after being fouled just outside the area. Hincks swung in a dangerous looking free kick that found its way to Ashton-Jones but her shot was well saved by Alison Rawle.
Just before the half hour mark, the impressive Danni Farmer made a run down the left wing and hit a cross that found Hincks unmarked in the Dartford area. Unfortunately for Hincks who was playing up front on her own, she couldn't direct her header on target.
Two minutes later and Hincks made no mistake in scoring the Gills second goal of the game. Deanna Cooper was taken out again by a Dartford defender as she looked to build the Gills attack. Hincks who had missed a free kick earlier in the half stepped up and found the top corner from 30 yards with a superb strike.
Just a few minutes later she was netting her second goal of the game thanks to good work by Deanna Cooper again. The hard working Cooper broke through the midfield and slotted a pin point ball through to Hincks; she took one touch and hit her shot under the on rushing keeper.
With half time fast approaching Danni Farmer got a goal that her play deserved when she was taken out as she ran into the Dartford area. She calmly picked herself up and blasted her spot kick into the roof of the net.
Half Time 0-4
There were just seconds on the clock in the second half when the Gills swung a cross into the Dartford area, the defender missed it and there was Farmer well placed to tap home her second goal of the game.
In the 53rd minute Hincks and Farmer linked up well together again, as Hincks played in Danni Farmer, her shot was well saved by the keeper and from the resulting corner Les Kay headed just over the bar.
Just before the hour mark Danni Farmer completed her hat trick after a fine solo effort. The ball made its way to the attacking midfielder on the edge of the area; she turned and calmly placed her shot over the keeper and into the roof of the net.
The game started to go a bit flat towards just after the hour mark so manager Ian Varley decided to make a couple of substitutions, with Anelle Massey coming on for Danni Farmer and Charlotte Abbott replacing Ashlee Hincks.
The substitutions paid off when just eight minutes later the Gills had their seventh goal of the game. A long ball out the back found Vicky Ashton-Jones; she took the ball in her stride and broke into the area, rounding a defender before calmly scoring her second of the afternoon.
Two minutes after that and substitute Charlotte Abbott got on the score sheet tapping into an empty net. Deanna Cooper took the ball down the left wing and into the Dartford area, with the keeper flying out to meet her she calmly squared across the six yard box. Vicky Ashton-Jones was there but with a defender in close attendance she couldn't get on the end of the cross, but Chabs followed up to tap home.
The Gills were then forced to play out the final 15 minutes with just ten players after Captain Becky Lyon was forced to come off with a dead leg after clashing with a Dartford midfielder.
Despite this it did not stop the Gills creating chances and in the 85th minute Jodie Mugford crossed a ball into the area. Unfortunately for the Gills Charlotte Abbott couldn't quite get on the end of it and put it through an empty net.
