Gillingham Manager Ronnie Jepson admits his side will not be taking their foot off the pedal now that they have maintained their League One status.

Ronnie JepsonPort Vale travel to Priestfield on Saturday and although Jepson expects a difficult game against the club where he started his professional playing career, the Manager admits his side can maintain their excellent home form: "It won't be an easy game as they have been doing well and will be nice and relaxed - but we'll be ok if we perform how we have been at Priestfield for most of the season.  It's a relief that we're staying in this league after the season we've had - and we're going to aim to finish as high as we can now.  The points tally at the end of the season is really important and we want to get as many as we can on board in the remaining three games. The worst thing is if people switch off, but I won't allow that to happen and the supporters won't allow that to happen either.

"Against
Bristol City, last time out at Priestfield, it was a great win against a promotion chasing side. The players gave it their all and that is all I can ask for.  I had six or seven contenders for the Man of the Match award on the day. We were down to the bare bones, but I never make excuses for them. They are professionals and what we have got, we have to go with and try and get the best out of them.  I think you have to back yourselves and show people that you are good enough - and when you have got six or seven players on top form, like we had against City, you've always got a chance of getting a result.

"We want to win every game that we play in. The supporters expect that and I expect that, so hopefully we can have a good end to the season now."

The Gills go into the game on a high after winning at
Chesterfield and Jepson was pleased to see his side keep a clean sheet as they achieved their second double of the season: "The three points we gained at Chesterfield last weekend were priceless too. It's fantastic for the supporters to see us get a clean sheet and a win away from home.  We've worked hard for it and I'm pleased to have been able to put a smile on the supporters' faces for a change away from home.

"I couldn't ask for any more from the players who went out there, and I've got to give them credit. We knew that
Chesterfield were going to come at us all guns blazing, but we soaked it up and got the goal at the end.  We don't have a massive squad and perhaps people don't realise how hard myself and my staff work.   I also understand that the fans want better and I think they deserve more quality, but the boys couldn't have given much more for me this season."

Several players are out of contract at the end of the season and Jepson admits he knows what players he wants to bring to Priestfield during the close-season: "I've given the Chairman a list of players that I want to bring to the club and I hope we can make a few moves on that front, as well as sort out who we're keeping and releasing from our current squad.  It has been a difficult season all round, but we'll have a better budget next season. I would like a squad with a little more quality - the supporters deserve that - and if I can get the players I want, then we can definitely be up there challenging next season."
