"We Want To Go There And Win." Says Jepson
Gillingham Manager Ronnie Jepson hopes his side can keep their winning streak going when they take on Bournemouth at the Fitness First Stadium on Saturday.
The Gills are mathematically safe but Jepson admits his side still have professional pride to play for: "We want to
go there and win. For me, you are not worth your sort if you do not want to win a game of football. You are a professional footballer and you should want to win. It's about professional pride and about trying to entertain the supporters who follow us all over the country. That is a pre-requisite and you have got to do that.
"That is what we get paid for; to win football matches and to entertain our crowd. I'm not sure what
The Manager will be forced into making changes from the Port Vale match and Jepson admitted that Matty Jarvis could return to the squad: "We'll give one or two of the lads a go, but we still want to win games for the supporters. It looks like Gary Mulligan is out. He wants to play in every game, it is refreshing when lads are like that, but we'll have to keep him on the leash at the moment as I don't want it to be serious. I won't rest him for the sakes of resting him but I will not risk him if he is feeling anything. Dale Tonge has gone back to
"Matty Jarvis might feature at some part in the game. "Jarvo" has been massive for us. Everybody has seen how special he is and he gives us another dimension to our play at times. He will be a big loss to this football club so it would be nice if he can take part again before the end of the season. I don't think I would start him; he'd probably come off the bench."
player on Saturday and may not be at Bournemouth on Saturday, his place being taken by his assistant, Mick Docherty, who has managerial experience with
"We've only got one scout, Alan McLeary, and Mick Docherty and myself. There are not many games that we can cover when we are playing games. This gives me an opportunity now. The team will be set up by the "Doc" and myself on Thursday and Friday, then on Saturday, the preparation will all be in place and it is just the lads going out there and playing. I'll be letting the "Doc" and "Macca" take the team on Saturday because we need to be looking at these players in competitive football.
"We've been looking everywhere but it is difficult trying to cover the amount of games that we would like to. That is something that we will be looking at in the Summer and we'll be trying to improve the scouting network. Recruitment is a massive part of the job and you need to be good at that. We've got to try and find that somehow.
"We just want a bit more quality. The supporters have seen us all season. In terms of effort, the lads have done well for me but it is there for everybody to see, we have lacked quality at times and a bit of strength in depth. We are looking to solve that over the Summer and that will hopefully put us back challenging at the right end of the table. I've got ideas of what I want but I've got to speak to the players first, it would be disrespectful otherwise. I need to speak to the Chairman too and see where we are up to. It might all come down to what I have to release to bring others in. Once I know what we have available, that can determine what quality I bring into the football club."
Despite a difficult season, Jepson has once again been impressed by the club's supporters this season: "The fans have been different gear. The majority of the supporters have understood the difficulties we have experienced this season. The Chairman has been honest and I have been honest with the supporters too; it is no use trying to hide anything. It has been frustrating for them at times but they have stuck with us and that is a credit to them. We've just won three on the spin and that is nice. We've got a nice game at home to Yeovil next week to finish the season off. It would be nice to get something down at
