Gillingham Manager Mark Stimson believes goalkeeper Simon Royce is a worthy winner of the Player of the Year award.

The goalkeeper won the supporters Player of the Year as well as the KRBS Player of the Year and Stimson agrees with the decision: "I think that was a very good decision.  I've been here a few months now and whenever he has been called upon, Simon Royce has been absolutely outstanding.  I think "Roycey" thoroughly deserved the Player of the Year award."

Simon King scooped Players' Player of the Year and Away Player of the Year and Stimson was full of praise for the popular centre-half: "Simon King is another player that I have got massive belief in. "Kingy" is the type of player that we need at the football club to take us further.  He has got great ability, has got a fantastic heart and has got that competitive edge."

Andrew Crofts won the Medway News Goal of the Season for his strike against Brighton at the Withdean Stadium and Stimson admitted it was a fine goal: "What a goal that was, which was all the better as it was against a rival team.  The Chairman made the comment at the Player of the Year night that we haven't scored too many goals this season but some of them have been top drawer.  The top 3, Crofts' goals against Brighton and Walsall and Chris Dickson's goal at Crewe, it was hard to choose from them.  I would have probably said that one in the circumstances it came about but full credit to "Crofty" for stepping up and hitting it."

Charlie Howard won the Young Player of the Year award and Stimson explained why the management chose the youth team captain for the award: "I said a few words about Charlie Howard on the stage.  What I was trying to get across to the audience is that he is in a similar mould to Andy Hessenthaler.  "Hessy" is a legend at this football club and what Andy has had throughout his career, and what Charlie has got, is the most important thing in football; they want to be a winner.  At such a young age, Charlie Howard wants to win everything he does, whether that is five-a-side, races, eleven-a-side.  That is something you cannot give to players and he has been born with it.  If he can keep that competitive edge to his game, he will have a good career and I'm looking forward to working more with him."

The Gills finish their campaign against Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday and Stimson believes his side can defy the odds and win in Yorkshire: "It is certainly all still on for Saturday.  About half past two on Saturday, I was down and I said so in the interviews I did with the press.  I was feeling low after our result and I didn't feel it warranted the performance that we put in.  If I am honest, the other results went for us on Saturday afternoon so now we can go up to Leeds and play in front of a full house; that should be every players dream to play in a game like that.  There is always a twist and turn on the final day of the season and there is a team that nobody expects to get out of it and that team could be us.  Cheltenham are at home to Doncaster and Bournemouth are away at Carlisle.  Two of those teams need to win to try and get the automatic promotion place.  Leeds will be a very hard game but it is one that we will be quietly confident about and with the way that we have been playing of late, I am sure we can go there and put in a performance."
