In stark contrast to Tuesday night's post match press conference, Manager Mark Stimson was in bullish mood as he reviewed his team's display at Huish Park, "It was a performance we should be proud of, and the fantastic support we brought here today were proud of it too.
That was pleasing because, they haven't been happy after the last couple of games and rightly so. I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't come away with the three points because I thought we created the better chances, but the woodwork got in the way of us winning the game.
"We'll take some positives from it because it was a spirited performance and a wholehearted one. I think the supporters can take a bit of heart from that today and so will the players. With six changes we had a new sort of team and formation, so it was a bit different out there. We did enough to win it, but I'll take a point.
Stimson surprised the Gills faithful with six changes to his starting XI and explained the thinking behind his squad reshuffle, "These boys have got ability and talent, we just tried to give them that little bit more spirit and desire.
We put some people back in the team today, in Garry Richards and Adam Miller who have an abundance of spirit, sometimes too much, and it gets them into trouble. I asked them to step in and put in a man's performance and both of them have done that.
If you've got two doing that, plus Barry Fuller and the way the front three of Oli, Walker and Weston worked today, you've got a chance because that's six or seven players firing on full throttle. I can't fault anyone's work rate today because I thought everyone put a shift in.
"The boy Walker and Oli were chasing back into channels, making tackles and that's part and parcel of the game. They are very tired in the changing room now, but that's how it should be."
The goalless draw saw Gillingham climb out of the relegation zone at the first attempt and Stimson revealed he never felt pressure despite his team's lowly position. "Pressure comes from within, and from the people above, and the people above have been absolutely spot-on with me. They've been honest because they know I'm honest.
"We're all desperate to get the results and keep in this division but we just have to make sure the boys don't feel any pressure and go out and play because you can see that when they do that there are some good players here.
"You've just got to have that desire every single game, I think we showed that today and I think that was from putting certain personnel back into the team."
The Gills Manager is confident his team have now turned a corner and can only improve on the final quarter of the campaign, "We had a couple of players who haven't played recently and they can only get fitter. If they play with the same desire and get fitter then their quality can only improve.
"I thought possibly Adam Miller and John Nutter were starting to fatigue in the last quarter, but that's understandable. Garry Richards was stretching with cramp in the last ten minutes. Danny Jackman is another one, but they'll only get better from it in the coming weeks.
"We'll have a good week's training and there is a reserve team game where some players will play. Whoever's available at the end of the week, I'm sure if they can go out and put this performance on again, we'll get the home supporters behind us and get a good result against Bristol Rovers."
