The Gills face Huddersfield Town tomorrow, knowing they need to maintain their home form in order to keep above the relegation places, and Mark Stimson is confident that his side have ironed out the flaws that lead to defeat last weekend at Carlisle, "We were in the game, but obviously it wasn't good because we came away with a 2-0 defeat.
"I don't think we kept the ball well upfront and unfortunately if you don't keep the ball upfront then the defenders are constantly going to be under pressure. That's gone now, we've worked on a few things in training and we now look forward to Saturday's game against a good Huddersfield side who, at the moment, are sat in the play-off places and we have to make sure that we are ready for them.
Every team in this league is beatable; we just have to play really well and try not to have another off game. We've done really well at home this season so far and I'm sure with the vocal backing that we are going to get, we will be able to make it an enjoyable game."
The Terriers arrive at Priestfield off the back of a heavy 0-5 midweek defeat at Southampton but Stimson knows his side is in for a tough test, "We had them watched in midweek but unfortunately they probably played against the best team in the league. I know Southampton aren't at the top, but they went to Norwich a couple of weeks ago and won there, so it shows you how good Southampton are.
"I know it wasn't the ideal game but there were certain things in that game that stood out and we will be trying to work on those areas on the pitch, to try and put pressure on Huddersfield. We have to make sure that we are strong at the back because they have some good attacking players.
"They had a bad night the other night but it's not too often that good players have bad nights. The Huddersfield strikers are good players, so we have to make sure that we don't have a mountain to climb by half time.
"Their two wide players are good with the ball, their full-backs and their two centre-forwards are willing to chase and put their body on the line. They will cause our defenders problems so we have to make sure we are ready for that.
"Their front four, and a couple of the subs that can be brought off the bench, are creative, quick and have some power. Defensively, like it showed the other night, they can be got at and that's what we're going to try and do. We're going to make sure we are tight at the back and try and play the ball more in their final third."
Stimson fielded three forwards in an attacking 4-3-3 formation at Carlisle but revealed he is planning something different for this weekend's encounter, "We've tried a couple of different formations in the week, we've unfortunately had a striker not train since last week due to picking up a knock and I'm not sure if he's going to be fit yet.
"It may be a case of 4-3-3, but it may be a different three. It might be 3-5-2 or 4-4-1-1 but I know we will have 11 out there and whatever formation we go for we're going to try and win and that's the important thing.
"These formations can sometimes come across as if we're trying to be clever, we're not, we're just trying to win the game. We put three upfront last week to try and add pressure against Carlisle but like I said we didn't perform well enough.
"Maybe we had one too many up the front. Maybe they got in each other's way but we'll put something together that we've worked on this week and hopefully the outcome will be good on Saturday."
