STIMSON: IT WAS AN IMPORTANT WIN
Speaking after his sides 1-0 over Port Vale Mark Stimson was delighted to get back to winning ways, "It was very important to get a win at home. A lot of people didn't see the Shrewsbury and Aldershot games. We didn't deserve to get beaten 7-0 at Shrewsbury but we did. Then last week at Aldershot, we deserved something from the game."
"It was important for us to go out and play in front of our own supporters, on a fantastic day, and show them that we are up for this fight; we want to get in amongst the frontrunners and that performance said that. It certainly wasn't pretty but sometimes you take the points. It was one of those games where we didn't play well but we won so that's a good sign."
Stimson was full of praise for debutant Andy Barcham, "Andy Barcham became available in the week and I asked the Chairman if we could have him. The Chairman has pulled out all the stops to allow me to get him and I thank him for that. Everyone saw how Andy competes for the ball in the air despite not being the biggest."
"I had a player with me in the non-league days, Aaron McLean, who is now at Peterborough United. Last year, he ripped this division to pieces. He is only five foot nothing but he was my best header of a ball and Andy Barcham isn't far off that. He is a player that will compete and he is not frightened to be whacked by a six foot odd centre-half. If you have got that mentality then you are going to get stuck in and get your rewards."
With three points in the bag Stimson is already shaping his plans for next weekend's trip to Devon, "Exeter is a difficult place to go. We'll all have a good weekend, a lot different to the one last week, and then the players will come in on Monday and work hard again. We'll have a game plan to go down to Exeter and look to build on this result."
"Dennis Oli and Gary Mulligan should both be available for next week. Both injuries have dragged on a little longer than we first thought but hopefully those two are ready to come back and we'll assess them on Monday."
