Following last week's home win Defender Garry Richards is in confident mood ahead of tomorrow's trip to the West Country, "We'll go into the match at Exeter full of confidence after a win and a clean sheet against Port Vale and we know we can get the three points to push us up the table. We've got a good team and a good squad so there is no reason why we cannot be confident going into the next couple of games."

Richards believes that the Port Vale result has given the back four a major lift, "As a defender, it is nice to get a clean sheet. After two defeats, it was important to get a win and get the fans back behind us. Simon King, Barry Fuller, John Nutter and I were over the moon with the clean sheet. Strikers come off the pitch and are judged on their goals; we come off the pitch and are judged by our clean sheets so that was pleasing after two defeats."

"It was nice to know that there are games where we haven't played as well as we can play but we can still get the three points. The best sides manage to ground results out and that is what we did against Port Vale. The key for us having a good season is to win our home matches and have the backing of the fans. Hopefully we can make Priestfield a bit of a fortress for when teams come and play here this season."

Garry attributes much of the credit for the Gills defensive security to his growing partnership with Simon King, "I really enjoy playing football alongside "Kingy". Like me, he is a whole-hearted defender and everyone can see he gets his body in there. Personally, I think we're getting bigger and stronger with every game."
