Barry Fuller was handed the captain's armband this week and we caught up with new Gills skipper, "It feels really good. The Gaffer called me in after training on Monday and I didn't know why he wanted me. When he offered it to me, I was surprised. I felt honoured. This is my local club, I've always lived locally and I've always thought about playing for Gillingham. When the opportunity came about to play for Gillingham, that was an honour, but to be a local boy and be captain of your local club, you cannot ask for much more than that. I'll rally the boys, we'll have a bit of banter and I'll keep their chins up in training and in the dressing room."

"When I first came to the club, to play a game was good as I had jumped up a couple of divisions. I wasn't first choice at the time so kept plugging away. I definitely feel that I have improved. Confidence is a lot of it. When I first came to the club, I was in and out of the team and I wasn't one hundred per cent fit. I got my head down in pre-season and I think that I am playing the best football of my career."

"Attacking-wise, I think my game has improved but it's always been about the defensive side. The Gaffer has given me the captaincy and I don't think it will affect my game. It's always been in me to be a leader, whether I wear the armband or not. I need to keep performing well as I don't want anyone to come in and take my shirt. I want to play as many games as I can this season, win games for Gillingham to get back into League One and be the best that I can be."

Fuller admits no one suffers more when the team loses, "It hurts. I hate losing any game and that includes a five a side in training or at home on the computer with my missus! We have to keep plugging away in games. We've not been having that luck in front of goal recently. Today is another game and we need the three points against Morecambe. It would be nice for us to perform well but the three points on the board is what we need now.
