Gillingham failed to get a bye in the preliminary draw for this season's Johnstone's Paint Trophy and have been placed in the Southern Section East of next month's draw.

Barnet, Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham Town, Colchester United, Hereford United, Milton Keynes Dons, Plymouth Argyle and Wycombe Wanderers are the Southern clubs handed a bye to the Second Round.

Meanwhile the Gills will face one of Brentford, Brighton, Charlton, Dagenham & Redbridge, Leyton Orient, Southend and Stevenage when the First Round Draw is made, live on Sky Sports Soccer AM show on Saturday August 14th

First Round ties will be played in the week commencing August 30th.
