Andy Hessenthaler takes the Gills first team down to Sittingbourne's Bourne Park Ground tomorrow afternoon for a pre-season friendly with Croydon Athletic, kick-off 3.00pm The game has been switched to Sittingbourne after it was decided that Croydon's KT Stadium pitch would not be ready in time for the fixture.

Hessy will name a strong squad and is expected to give more game time to those players who featured as substitutes in last night's match with Heart of Midlothian. New signing Adebayo Akinfenwa and fellow striker Mark McCammon could both get a chance to increase their match fitness.

Croydon Athletic

Managed by former Gills favourites Tim O'Shea and Neil Smith, The Rams gave us a good workout in pre-season last year, youngster Josh Sargeant's last minute strike securing a 2-2 draw after Luis Cumbers had opened the scoring.

Athletic went on to enjoy an excellent 2009/10 campaign, winning the Ryman League South and will compete in the Ryman League Premier for the first time in the club's history this season.

Manager O'Shea has made some impressive additions to his playing staff this summer, most notably former Ipswich, Leeds and Wolves midfielder Jermaine Wright who joined on a free transfer from Blackpool. He is joined by former Fulham and Dundee centre-half Tom Hutchinson who arrived from Woking earlier this month.
