Gills forward Andy Barcham is set for a spell on the sidelines after the injury picked up in Tuesday evening's Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie left the pacey winger on crutches. Manager Andy Hessenthaler confirmed the news this morning, "It's not looking good for Andy.
"He rolled his ankle a couple of minutes after coming on and he definitely won't be for fit the weekend. He's on crutches; the physio will have a look at him today and may send him off for an x-ray. He's been icing it since Tuesday night.
"He had a bit of a tight calf going into the game, so we put him on the bench to give us another option. The game got to that stage where Barch could come on and open the door with his pace and trickery. I thought he could go on and win us the match because the game was becoming stretched.
"He goes on for two minutes and ends up getting an injury. It's easy in hindsight but perhaps we shouldn't have involved him. It's back-fired on us a bit but we wanted to try and win the game. He'll miss the Shrewsbury game and I think he'll be out for at least two weeks."
Hessy's squad selection for the trip to Bury could also be hampered by the absence of striker Cody McDonald who had to be substituted in the second half at Roots Hall, "Cody is a doubt as well, he picked up a knock in the game and he's not training today.
"Unfortunately it's an ankle injury as well and he's struggling a bit. I would say he'll travel but at this stage he would only be 50/50. If we rest him today and he's in tomorrow then hopefully he'll be ok for the weekend."
