The man-in-the-middle for the Gills League Two encounter with Shrewsbury Town at Priestfield this weekend will be West Yorkshire based referee Robert Madley. As a youngster, Madley was on the books at a Championship side's Centre of Excellence but dropped out of the game at age 16, before choosing a career as a referee.

He was appointed to the National list of Assistant Referees in 2001 and progressed onto the National Referee's list last season, where he took charge of Northampton Town's 2-1 FA Cup defeat of Fleetwood.

This season, Madley has already officiated in three League Two matches including Barnet's 7-0 humbling at Crewe. He also oversaw Port Vale's opening day 1-0 win at  Bury, while last weekend he refereed Accrington Stanley's 1-1 draw with Wycombe Wanderers.
