JACKSON: GLAD TO GET THREE POINTS

Posted on: Wed 25 Nov 2009

By Chris Dicketts

Striker Simeon Jackson made an instant impact as he returned to the starting line-up against Yeovil on Tuesday evening.

The Canadian International scored with a well taken if not somewhat cheeky penalty after a foul on strike partner Febian Brandy.

Talking after the game about the penalty, he said: "I thought Curtis was going to kick up a stink because he scored the last one. It was good to go in one to the good and it should have been three or four but I am happy with the three points as we needed them."

With the Gills creating so many chances in the opening 20 minutes of the game, the match could have been over and done with by half time.

Giving his opinion of how the game went the diminutive front man, added: "We started off very well, we had a couple of chances in the first 20 minutes and could have been three-nil up really.

"After that we couldn't really get the ball down and play but as a couple of us were saying it is the first time we have played bad and won. Usually we play well and don't get anything so we will take the three points."

"If we come out and start like that in most games we will find ourselves more than one or two-nil up. We held on in the end and we were just glad to get three points really."

With the strikers scoring goals the defence kept its sixth clean sheet in the League this season and seventh in all competitions.

Something not lost on Jackson, he said: "We always mange to do well at home and the back four have been brilliant even away on Saturday we were solid for 70 or 80 minutes, so it is good to have that."

The striker may only have played twice up front with loan signing Febian Brandy but he thinks they are forming a good partnership.

He said: "He is a really good player; he wants to get at people and run at defenders which is what you want in this League especially.

"It is only two games but I think we are starting to get a feel of each other and know how we want to play."

With Simeon having returned from international duty with Canada last week he gave an insight into what his time away was like.

He added: "It was a good trip; it was a good experience as we played two good teams but we were disappointing in the first game to be honest. In the second game we played a lot better but still didn't get the result. It was good for me going and getting the experience and getting the caps."
