A Curtis Weston strike was enough to secure the Gills safe passage into FA Cup Round Three but the goal hero admits that Burton gave then a real test, "They came and they were always going to put their foot in and their head in, their elbows and whatever else. I thought they battled quite well but we came out on top which is good.
"The Manager told us what they were going to be about, that they'd put their foot in and come hard and be ready for the game. We had to be on top of our game and I thought for spells of the game we were today. It was hard grind in the end so it was good to get the win."
Weston's goal was his seventh of the season and the midfielder is naturally delighted with his form in front of goal, "It was nice little build up play and a good ball from Febian to put me through and the finish wasn't bad either. Obviously to get seven goals from centre mid before Christmas is pretty good for me and for the team so I'm happy with that.
Loan signing Febian Brandy is forging an impressive partnership with leading scorer Simeon Jackson and Curtis believes he is benefitting from the duo's success, "The two little guys up top are doing well and when you come up against big centre backs like Branston today, they use it well because they get down the sides and use their pace well.
"With his tricky feet and Jacko's movement it's a lot for defenders to live with. It suits me because I like to get up there and use my pace to get in behind. There's good delivery from Barchy and the strikers so it's a good front line to play with."
Weston was also quick to praise the pair at the heart of the defence where Josh Gowling and Matt Fry secured their second clean sheet in five days, adding, "Both of them won Man of the Match in the last two games and that showed because the game today and, I thought, the game before they were very solid. Both of them are brilliant so it's good that we've got that stability now. They're mates off the pitch and that shows on the pitch in their partnership as well."
The draw for the Third Round takes place at 3.50pm on ITV1 this afternoon and Weston can't wait to discover the Gills fate, "Obviously the boys are going to want to play a big team, that's what you want to do in your career, play as many big teams and at as high a level as you possibly can.
"Personally I want a big team and I want to have a go and test myself at that level and I'm sure the boys do as well. Man Utd away, straight away, I'd choose them! I'll be round the TV waiting to see who we've got and I'm pretty excited about who we're going to draw."
While the Third Round may prove an exciting distraction, Tuesday night's trip to Leyton Orient is Weston's first priority and the midfielder is confident his team's poor away run could come to an end, "Hopefully it will be Tuesday, we want it a.s.a.p. We've had two wins on the bounce now and we're in good spirit so hopefully we can go in and do the business on Tuesday.
"We need the points away and we've not won away all season and everyone keeps talking about when it's going to be. The more people talk about it the more we're going to want to do it, so now's the time to get that win.
