Gillingham were held to a 0-0 draw by Carlisle at krbs Priestfield on Saturday and young centre-half Matt Fry admitted the team were disappointed with the result, "We had to look around and check that we actually did get a point at the end because it did feel like a defeat.
"After playing the way that we did and coming into the game feeling that we could pick up points it did feel like a loss. I think the home crowd does help and they do become a twelfth man for us, they're nice and loud and lively and they do get behind us.
"We need to go away now and pick up points, it's time to break that record and if we can pick up points, home and away, it should see us flying up that table."
Fry and defensive partner Josh Gowling kept another clean sheet on Saturday and Fry revealed his secret is meticulous preparation, "Being inexperienced and young, I do my research before the game about the players I'm going to be playing against.
"The Gaffer helps, if there's anything I'm not sure about he'll help me out and YouTube is a big help too. On my league debut I looked at some of Jermaine Easter's goals and it did look quite frightening to be honest with you with the pace he has as well.
"Obviously I knew about Vincent Pericard and Kavanagh, they've both had long careers in the game but I just stay focussed and try and do the same job. I think me and Josh did well today, we kept Pericard fairly quiet. He is a very good player so we must be doing something right."
19 year-old Matt has grown in stature since making his league debut for the club in October and believes he is benefitting greatly from his time with the Gills, "Every game is another 90 minutes experience and I think I've definitely learned a lot more.
"I don't think I've added much to my game in terms of how I play, it's more in terms of the mental side of the game, preparing for the game. Playing against the likes of Vincent Pericard, Jermaine Easter and Deon Burton at Charlton, I feel I'm maturing and getting better with every game as well.
"You have to say that to keep a clean sheet today is a good result for us. That's the fifth clean sheet at home so we're obviously doing something right, we've just got to keep digging in and hopefully pick some results up away from home."
The Gills now face a daunting trek to Huddersfield on Saturday and Fry knows the team will have to be on top of their game to take anything from the Galpharm, "They are flying at the moment and they're doing so well. We're going to have to go out there and give everything to hopefully come away with three points.
