The Gills may have lost the Boxing Day fixture against Brentford but Dennis Oli had one of his best games for the Gills this season.

The winger thought that the Gills came out of the blocks in the first half, and came up against a keeper in top form.

He said: "We started like a house on fire didn't we really, we created great chances but we came up against their keeper who was on good form.

"I think that gave them more confidence and then they nicked a goal with about five minutes to go in first half and that killed us a bit, but i really thought we were going to get something out of the game.

"Then we came out second half and Josh gets sent off and it just puts a big downer on things, we tried to keep going and then it got evened up and i thought we could have got something but it wasn't to be today unfortunately."

The pacey wide man still believed, as did his team mates, that if they matched their first half performance in the second, they could still get something from the game.

He added: "We just thought that if we go out and do the same thing in the second half that once we got one their heads would go down and we would get another one.

"Like i said, the sending off, i think, killed us a little bit but we kept going and going, but it wasn't to be unfortunately. "

Dennis had a great game and it is something that he realises he has to do on a more consistent basis for the Gills.

He said: "The result did put a big downer on the day to be honest, and i am just a bit gutted at the moment.

"I just need to keep playing and get a regular spot in the side; the good thing is we have a game Monday so that we can get this out of our system.

"I think it is a game that we can go there and break that away hoodoo, so hopefully we can do that on Monday.

Until this afternoon's defeat against Brentford the Gills had not lost at home since August, and it was gutting that the record has now gone for Oli.

He added: "It is disappointing that the little record has gone but hopefully we can now go and break the away record.

"If we go about it how we did today then we can go there and get a result, everyone is confident anyway. It was a little blip at home and now we have a chance to go out there and do the business.
