After a twelve month pursuit Mark Stimson finally secured the signing of tough tackling midfielder Kevin Maher on a free transfer from Oldham Athletic in June 2009.
The two had worked together as players during Stimson's spell on the books of Southend United. They linked up for the second time in March 2008 when Maher arrived on a seven game loan spell at krbs Priestfield as the Gills battled for survival in League One.
After a decade at Southend, Kevin was expected to move to Gillingham last season but opted to remain in League One with the Latics where the vastly experienced midfielder clocked up his 400th Football League appearance.
He has brought a calm air of assurance to the team's midfield and is sure to be a key player as the Gills seek to retain their League One status this season.
