Forward Dennis Oli is another to have played previously under Mark Stimson, joining the Gills for an undisclosed fee from the ex-gaffer's former club Grays Athletic in November 2007. A versatile player he can operate with equal composure as a winger or in a striking role.
Dennis scored on his Gillingham debut in the 4-0 Johnstone's Paint Trophy demolition of Dagenham & Redbridge and went on to make 22 league appearances for the Gills in 2007/08 finding the net four times.
As a youngster he graduated through the youth ranks at Queens Park Rangers making 23 league starts for the R's. Following brief spells with Swansea City and Cambridge United he signed for Grays Athletic and was a key player in the side that lifted back-to-back FA Trophies.
Dennis scored his first of the 2008/09 season in the 1-0 home win over Accrington Stanley, but had his first team appearances hampered by a fractured bone in the base of his foot. He returned to fitness at Christmas and his pace down the right flank was a major asset in the Gills promotion push.
He took his time to get off the mark in 2009/10, not scoring his first goal until the pre-Christmas clash with Stockport County. A goal which he memorably celebrated by diving headfirst into the snow piled behind the goal mouth.
Although rare, his goals are always important, as illustrated when Dennis notched Gillingham's second in the 2-2 draw at Charlton and their opening goal in the 3-0 home win over relegation rivals Southend.
In the summer of 2010, he put pen to paper on a new two year contract which will keep him at Priestfield until the end of the 2011/12 campaign. A pre-season hamstring injury kept him out for the opening weeks of the season and continued to cause him problems for much of the year.
Dennis was restricted to just three starts and 18 sub appearances in 2010/11, his only goal saw him find the net moments after coming on as a late substitute in the 3-1 home win over high-flying Rotherham.
