Central defender Garry Richards began his career as a trainee with Colchester United making 20 appearances for the U's. He spent time on loan with Gravesend & Northfleet and Brentford before a permanent move to Roots Hall.
He joined Gillingham for an undisclosed fee from Southend United during the January 2008 transfer window and made his Gills debut in the away tie at Walsall. Garry went on to make 14 appearances netting his first goal for the club in the 1-1 home draw with Swindon Town.
Garry started the season as first choice centre-half alongside Simon King but lost his place to Mark Bentley over the Christmas period. He returned to the starting line-up in April and was a rock at the heart of the defence as the Gills secured a return to League One.
