A tall and powerful forward, Rene began his career in the non-league game with prolific spells at Bedford Town and Kettering before moving to Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee in 2007.
Although unable to hold down a regular first team place with the Posh he has scored regularly during a series of successful loan spells.A return of nine goals in 20 league games for Rochdale in 2007/08 was followed by a spell at Morecambe last season in which he netted 12 times in all competitions.
He started this campaign with Lincoln City scoring a further five times before injury ended his loan spell in December. Howe joined the Gills on loan until the end of the season in mid-January making his debut at krbs Priestfield in the League One clash with Colchester United.
