Promising midfielder Stuart Lewis spent time as a youngster with both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur's Academy Teams and captained England at Under-16 level. After leaving White Hart Lane Lewis made his league debut for Barnet before signing for Mark Stimson at Stevenage Borough.
Stuart followed Stimson to the krbs Priestfield Stadium making his Gills debut as a second half substitute away at Tranmere in January 2008. He made 10 appearances for the Gills that season, and continued to make a big impact in the side during the 2008/09 campaign.
He was called into action as a makeshift right-back after suspension ruled Barry Fuller out of the FA Cup Third Round tie with Aston Villa and performed so impressively that his team mates nicknamed him the "Ginger Cafu". The battling midfielder was a key player throughout the Gills promotion run-in forming a strong partnership with Curtis Weston and Josh Wright.
He began 2009/10 with a frustrating spell on the sidelines after damaging ankle ligaments in a pre-season friendly at Bishops Stortford but has since returned to claim his place in the Gills midfield. The Ginger Cafu finally opened his account for the Gills with a well-struck volley to earn a share of the spoils in the 1-1 draw at Exeter City.
