Simon Royce first appeared for the Gills in an impressive three game loan spell from Queens Park Rangers at the latter part of the 2006-07 season.  Following his release from Q.P.R Royce joined the Gills on a permanent basis in August 2007 and instantly claimed the goalkeeper's jersey.

Royce began his career in non-league football with Heybridge Swifts where his displays earned him a league opportunity with Southend United.  He enjoyed a 7 year stint at Roots Hall before moving on to Charlton Athletic, Leicester City and Queens Park Rangers.

Simon's outstanding form made him a huge hit with supporters resulting in him being named Player of the Year for 2007/08. He further delighted fans by putting pen to paper on a new one year contract in May 2008.

He continued in a similar vein in 2008/09, finishing running up in the League Two Golden Gloves award with a total of 20 clean sheets. He rounded off a superb season by making his first appearance at Wembley and kept a clean sheet as the Gills clinched promotion to League One.

Royce signed a new one year deal in July 2009 which will keep him at the club for the 2009/10 season and clocked up his 100th start for the Gills in the 1-1 home draw against his former side Charlton Athletic at krbs Priestfield.
