No-nonsense central midfielder Stuart Thurgood arrived at Gillingham in November 2007 from Grays Athletic where he played under Gills Manager Mark Stimson. Arriving initially on loan he made his debut for the club in the 2-1 home victory over Hartlepool United.
Stuart made his move to the Gills permanent in the January transfer window and went on to make a total of 12 first team appearances before returning to the New Rec on loan for the remainder of the season. This summer he re-joined Grays for the third time on loan until January.
Thurgood began his career as a trainee with Tottenham Hotspur, after leaving White Hart Lane he moved to Southend United via a brief stint with Japanese outfit Shimizu S-Pulse. Stuart made 79 appearances in 3 seasons for the Shrimpers moving on to Grays in 2004.
