Gillingham ended their home campaign in the Central Division with a disappointing goalless draw with Brentford.
Good work down the right by Cumbers gave Dickson the chance to put the home side ahead after just two minutes but the striker headed straight at Nikki Bull from close range.
Two minutes later trialist Pell's ball over the top allowed Dickson to pull back for Bentley, only for the experienced midfielder to blaze over from ten yards.
The Bees struggled to gain a foothold in the game but were almost gifted a goal on eight minutes as Wynter's mistake allowed Strevens to fire inches over the bar.
As the half wore on the visitors settled into their stride and the game became a far more even contest, The Gills going closest to scoring when Dickson was denied in the 39th minute as Nikki Bull pulled off a fine double save to block a brace of close range efforts from the right of goal.
Gillingham started strongly once more after the interval, but failed to convert their possession into goals. Charlton youngster Harry Pell tested Bull with a long range effort that the keeper scrambled to gather at the second attempt, as Cumbers raced in to finish.
On 68 minutes, Chris Dickson ran onto Royce's deep clearance and fired into the side netting from the right side of goal. Then, soon after, Dickson saw his blocked effort from a one-on-one fall to sub Charlie Stimson who rolled his effort agonisingly wide of the far post.
Ten minutes from time Chris Palmer forced his way into the box but was also denied by Nikki Bull who blocked his drive on the line, Stimson followed up but only succeeded in fouling Andy Yiadom as he attempted to clear.
Three minutes later, Dickson put the winner on a plate for Stimson with a precision cross from the right, unfortunately the youngster contrived to slice into the Rainham End with only the keeper to beat.
Dickson saw a header palmed away by Bull in the closing stages, while Chris Palmer dragged a shot wide of the far post at the death as the match ended in stalemate.
